Regular Meeting, January 12, 1954
reason, considering dropping this activity, and stated that the result of this would be that the members of the Society would have to assume it themselves.
The Veterans Administration announces that on Saturday, February 6th, at 1: P.M. Dr. Albert Snell, Chief Consultant in Gastroenterology, will talk on "Chronic Relapsing Pancreatitis, and invites the Society members to attend.
It was announced by Dr. W.B. Steen that the February regular meeting will be held in the Ballroom at the Pioneer Hotel, and will be a combined meeting with the Pima County Bar Association, to hear Dr. Louis Regan, advisor to the Los Angeles Medical Association.
The President announced that Committee appointments have been made and will be published and distributed. He asked that members realize that not everyone can be appointed to a committee, and reminded that some of the older members, who have already worked very hard for the Society, have asked to be excused. There would be some duplications, he stated, which cannot be avoided, and he requested that the office of the Society be notified of meetings called, for his information.
He referred to Advisory Committees, which seem to be growing in number, saying that each new group being formed requests an advisory committee from the Society and that it may seem odd to us that we are asked so often to function in this capacity, but that these groups find it difficult to understand why we are not interested, and it is felt wise to cooperate from a public relations standpoint. He added that attendance at their meetings often provides an opportunity to put in a word for common sense, and mentioned the instance of poliomyelitis, that the effort which is now being made to get together to figure out something workable is commendable. He stated that at one of the meetings the financial question arose and he was given an opportunity to comment adversely that he did not believe it right for the Foundation to underwrite the initial examination, and that he now notes the various ads endorse polio insurance.
There being no further business, motion for adjournment was made by Dr. Harry E. Thompson, and the meeting was adjourned.
