The chairman of the Program Committee, Dr. W.B. Steen, replied that as yet no definite arrangements have been made, but that the paragraph in this connection which appeared in the News Letter was put in in an effort to determine if there is local interest, and that this was done at the request of members of he Program Committee.
Application for Associate Membership was received from Dr. Jacob A. Kohn, on the basis of illness, and was read by the Secretary. It was moved by Dr. Leo J. Kent, that Dr. Kohn be recommended for Associate membership. Motion was seconded by Dr. Royal Rudolph, and carried.
Application for Associate Membership was received from Dr. William E. Overman, who is engaged in surgical residency, and was read by the Secretary. It was moved by Dr. Leo J. Kent that Dr. Overman be recommended for Associate Membership. Motion was seconded by Dr. L.E. Beaton and carried.
Interpretation of Chapter IV, Section 1, sentence (c) of the By-Laws was discussed, with a view to determining whether practice in the Armed Forces or the Veterans Administration facilities locally serves the purpose of the 6 months residence provision as contained therein, when applications for active membership are under consideration. This is to be referred to the By-Laws Committee.
A letter received from the Board of Medical Examiners of the State of Arizona requesting the opinion of this Society as to whether or not an emergency will exist in the field of ophthalmology during the period between June 19th and July 12th, was read by the Secretary. The President stated that this had been referred to the committee appointed for this purpose, which offered it as their opinion that no emergency will exist.
Dr. Francis J. Bean reported on the meeting of the Tucson Community Council held on April 20. He stated that this was a meeting of the health and hospital division of the groups in town, about 40 people, and that he and Dr. Elizabeth Laidlaw were the only physicians in attendance. The purpose of the meeting was to decide whether or not the Council should continue, and after discussion it was felt to be worthwhile to do so as a clearing house for the local agencies, and new officers were elected. Dr. Bean offered it as his opinion that this Council does not carry enough weight in the county to do any real good, but that, as long as it does exist, the County Medical Society should be represented at its meetings.
Information which was received from the Arizona State Psychological Society was presented by the Secretary. It was moved by Dr. Beaton that this material be referred to some proper committee for careful review before it is acted upon. Motion seconded and carried.
The President introduced the subject of forms which are being sent to physicians to be filled out, without fee, and which are felt to be life insurance forms, used in lieu of the physical examination form, as they include such questions as age, height, weight, etc. It was moved by Dr. Carreras that this matter be referred to the Insurance and Industrial Relations Committee. Motion seconded by Dr. Harry Thompson and carried.
Dr. L.E. Beaton inquired whether effort had been made by the Public Relations Committee to discover why there was such inadequate coverage of the State Meeting in the local newspapers. Dr. Kent replied that everything possible was done, on
