The meeting was called to order by the President at 8:05 P.M. Minutes of the Board of Directors Meeting of March 4, 1954, were called for by the President and read by the Secretary.
Dr. Engle moved that the Minutes be corrected, because, according to his memory, it was decided just to stop the Television Programs.
Dr. Manning - Yes, do you want to stick your necks out at all?
Dr. Kent--There will be opportunities during the summer. We can always bring it before Engle and his group.
Dr. Bernstein--Any other corrections or additions or comments about the Minutes? If not, they are approved.
Dr. Bernstein--If there is no objection, I would like to leave the Order of Business and listen to Dr. Kohl, who has come to speak about the State business in connection with the American Medical Education Fund. Dr. Kohl.
Dr. Kohl--Mr. President, members of the executive Committee, before I start on this AMEF business I would like to--I do not have the authority to do it--no one does, but there is approximately $2500.00 lying around loose that apparently nobody knows and is not drawing any interest and I would like to offer it to the Pima County Medical Society with the suggestion that it be used either by placing it in a separate account for convention purposes or for the Building Fund. I would hate to see it go into the current account. This was our profit on the Southwestern Medical Association meeting here last Fall, and I contacted, as your chairman, the officials of the Southwestern and asked them what we were supposed to do with it, and they said they wanted only $100.00 of it and the rest we could do with what we would. Of course, the committee does not own the money--Dr. Heim has it in the bank. Dr. Heim sent them $100.00 and we sent each of the speakers a Christmas present, which amounted to about $100.00 and we have approximately $2500.00 left.
Dr. Steen--We have approximately $2500.00 in Bonds, we could add it to that.
Dr. Kohl--I do not think it ought to go into the General Fund and the members of the Committee would like to have it either go into a convention fund for future use or a building fund.
Dr. Steen--I move we accept the money and buy some bonds with it.
Dr. Bernstein--Let's get the background on this--where did the money come from?
Dr. Kohl--the money came from registration of the members of the Southwestern Medical Association--it came from outside of town and through exhibits our committee was able to defray all the speakers' expenses and the Christmas gifts and all the expenses and still have about $2500.00 This money by rights I am sure is the property of the Society and it is up to the Society to determine what they want to do with it. Whether they want it for current expenses, speakers fund, or for a Building fund.
Dr. Neubauer--I would hate to see the motion stand as listed, because if this convention is put on again--and those of us that took a part in it for quite a while did not know whether we would have the funds to get the ball rolling. Let's have these funds available for addition conventions to clear the decks. Don't tie them up by earmarking for the building fund.
