Letter from Mrs. Betty Kinkade, President of the Women's Auxiliary to the Pima County Medical Society, submitting the projects for the group for the year 1954-55, was read by the Secretary.
Dr. Beaton--I have one specific objection to this--being solicited as a profession by the Community Chest and the Red Cross. I think we should be solicited at home just as other people are. I hate to see us put down for $8,000.00 as a group and then have it published as having fallen down.
Dr. Bernstein--They do it this way.
Dr. Beaton--Sure, they put us in a small business category, but I do not think it is good business. How about it, Roy?
Dr. Rudolph--I think it would be a little hard to stop. That is the way they break down all dentists, physicians, lawyers. I do not see why the doctors wives collect it.
Dr. Bernstein--It is true, however, that the fact that the women do come into our offices has saved us some embarrassment.
Dr. Beaton--I do feel that doctors would give more if patients came and collected.
Dr. Thompson--Once they were outside during one of our meeting, and had check blanks. That worked out pretty well.
Dr. Bernstein--Mrs. Kinkade asks, do the doctors approve or disapprove of their raising funds for any of these organizations?
Dr. Beaton--We decided last year we did not want to raise money for any specific organization.
Dr. Rudolph--I make a motion that they do not work as a group but if interested work as individuals.
Dr. Beaton--We felt they should not be collecting funds in our name for any particular charity. Working is all right.
Dr. Rudolph--It is a question of a group of doctors' wives.
It was moved by Dr. Carreras that the rest of the program be approved. Motion seconded by Dr. Hileman and carried.
(Notify that we do not approve engaging in raising funds for any particular function.)
Dr. Costin--I was called by one of the members of the Auxiliary about a legislative thing. They want to send out a letter to the nominees or candidates for the legislature on medical matters. I do know whether the Auxiliary should undertake such a thing. A group of doctors' wives entering into a program of either approving or disapproving candidates because they stand for a thing or not.
Dr. Bernstein--The Auxiliary feels that they can help us by finding out how these candidates stand on certain things. Information is just for us.
Dr. Costin--That was what I wanted to know.
Dr. Steen--The AMA was in favor of groups organized out of medicine, as long as they were outside of the Society. If they found someone was [ crossed out: no ] in favor of socialized medicine [ crossed out: and ] then it was up to them to notify everybody.
Dr. Bernstein--I felt favorably about it and asked them to call you, Dr. Costin.
Dr. Costin--I thought it was all right and told them so and then wondered what they were planning to do with the information obtained.

Letter from the Arizona Medical Laboratory Association asking the Society's participation in their annual convention to be held in Tucson on October 16 and 17th by taking acknowledgement space on their program was read by the Secretary.
It was moved by Dr. David Engle that this be done and $15.00 be sent them.
Motion seconded by Dr. Beaton
Dr. Thompson--Has this ever been done before?
Dr. Bernstein--Yes, we just did it for the Nurses.
Motion carried.
