BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
October 28, 1954
Short Version
A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order at 8:15 P.M. by the President, Dennis Bernstein, M.D.
It was moved, seconded and carried to dispense with reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting.
Report of the Hospital Building Committee. The letter written to the Board of Supervisors of Pima County and the reply thereto made on October 15th, 1954, were read by the Secretary, W.T. Hileman, M.D.
Mr. Kautenberger's [ Kautenburger's ] letter stated that a form letter had been mailed to architects approved by the American Hospital Association asking for information on the unit cost and time involved in conducting a survey of the metropolitan area of Pima County. His letter also contained the information that the Comptroller had reported that it would be necessary to apply to the Tax Commission for funds to make this survey.
Dr. Harry Thompson, chairman of the Hospital Building Committee, felt that this indicated a favorable response for the time being, and that too much pressure should probably not be renewed until some time following the elections.
Public Relations Committee. A letter was received from Mr. George Rosenberg, Managing Editor of the Tucson Daily Citizen, requesting reconsideration by the Board of Directors of its decision not to use the individual author's name in connection with the articles on medical subjects which it is proposed to publish in that newspaper.
Dr. Bernstein reported for Dr. W.R. Manning, chairman, who was absent, that Dr. Manning would not be opposed to the use of the names with these articles.
After discussion and reconsideration, it was moved by Dr. Harry Thompson, seconded by Dr. Royal Rudolph, and carried, that reply be made to Mr. Rosenberg stating that serious reconsideration has been given this matter, but that the decision made previously is reaffirmed.
The President spoke about the By-Laws of this Society with reference to those provisions which he believes are not working out to the best interests of the Society.
First, the date for assuming office, which is the second Tuesday in January. Dr. Bernstein suggested that this falls in the very busiest time of the year and that it is very different for new officers to acquaint themselves with their duties, which are new and unfamiliar, so that hey may be performed to the best of their ability at that time. He submitted that it might be more advantageous to elect officers at the end of the winter season, or at the time of the State meeting, to take office following the state meeting. It was moved by Dr. Harry Thompson that this matter be referred to the By-Laws Committee for consideration. Motion was seconded by Dr. F.J. Bean and was carried.
It was suggested by Dr. Harry Thompson that the By-Laws pertaining to membership be changed to conform with the recent changes made in the By-Laws of the Arizona Medical Association in this respect, in order to have
