REGULAR MEETING
March 9, 1954.
This meeting was held in the Banquet Room at the El Conquistador Hotel, and was called to Order at 8:10 P.M. by the President, Dennis Bernstein. Dr. Bernstein expressed the hope that the new location was well chosen and well located, and that he would welcome comments from the members, one way or another. The location of telephone booths was explained, for convenience in making outgoing calls.
Minutes of the Regular meeting of February 9th, 1954, were called for by the President and read by the Secretary, W.T. Hileman. There being no corrections or objections, they were approved as read.
Minutes of the Board of Directors meeting of March 4th, 1954, in condensed form, were called for by the President and read by the Secretary, W.T. Hileman. There being no corrections or objections, they were approved as read.
The chairman of the Program Committee, W.B. Steen, presented A. Harry Neffson, who introduced the guest speaker, Dr. Noah D. Fabricant, of Chicago. Dr. Fabricant, who is Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine and an Associate Editor of the J.A.M.A., spoke about "Current Progress in Medication of the Ear, Nose and Throat."
Dr. Bernstein thanked Dr. Fabricant for a very thorough review of the medications used in the nose and throat.
Doctors Harold J. Rowe and E.W. Czerny were appointed by the President to be Tellers for the voting on membership.
Proposed for Permanent membership were: Frederick J. Hirsch, M.D.
Frank A. Nelson, M.D.
John R. Phillips, M.D.
M.A. Weurschmidt [ Wuerschmidt ], M.D.
Elmer E. Yeoman, M.D.
Proposed for Term membership were: Henry Clay Goss, M.D.
Lee Herman Kiel, M.D.
Roland V. Murphy, M.D.
All were found to be elected to membership as stated.
The President then opened discussion on the Salk Poliomyelitis Vaccine and its proposed use here in Tucson, He said,
"We must discuss this matter intelligently and try to do something about it. As you will recall, Dr. Manning spoke about this at one of the meetings at St. Mary's, asking whether we would approve the forthcoming vaccination, which we did and notice of our approval was sent to Dr. Salsbury and the matter was settled at that point for the time being. In the meantime, some objections have apparently arisen in the minds of some of our members, so that the question has been raised again for discussion,
