The Honorable Timothy S. Bee President of the Senate Arizona State Senate 1700 West Washington Phoenix, Arizona 85007 DeariPresident Bee:
RECEIVED
JuL 18 2007
OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT
Pursuant to Laws 2006, Chapter 344, Section 10, the Department of Economic Security is required to report all new placements into state-owned ICF-MR or the Arizona training program at Coolidge campus in fiscal year 2006-2007. The department of economic security shall report all new placements into a stateowned ICF-MR or the Arizona training program at Coolidge campus in fiscal year 2006-2007 to the president of the senate, the speaker of the house of representatives, the chairpersons of the senate and house of representatives appropriations committees and the director of the joint legislative budget committee and the reason why this placement, rather than a placement into a privately run facility for the developmentally disabled, was deemed as the most appropriate placement. The department should also report if no new placements were made. This report shall be made available by July 15,2007.
There were no new permanent placements into the Arizona Training Program at Coolidge for fiscal year 2006-2007.' There were two new placements into state operated Intermediate Care Facilities for the Mentally Retarded in Phoenix for fiscal year 2006-2007. The placements were deemed to be most appropriate when private run facilities denied admission. One consumer was admitted due to behavioral needs that could not be met in a community residential setting. The private Intermediate Care Facility did not accept this placement because the person was not appropriate for the facility. The other consumer was admitted into a state operated facility with medical needs that could no longer be met in a community residential setting. Placement for this person into the private Intermediate Care Facility was denied.
As indicated, there were no new placements at the Arizona Training Program at Coolidge (ATPC). The Department has temporarily provided short-term care for individuals at ATPC pending development of an appropriate permanent community residential setting.
