Dear President Bee:
Pursuant to Laws 2008, Chapter 255, Section 28, the Department of Economic Security is required to
report all new placements into a state- owned Intermediate Care Facility for the Mentally Retarded ( ICFMR)
or the Arizona Training Program at Coolidge campus in fiscal year 2007- 2008.
The department of economic security shall report all new placements into a state- owned
ICF- MR or the Arizona training program at Coolidge campus in fiscal year 2007- 2008
to the president of the senate, the speaker of the house of representatives, the
chairpersons of the senate and house of representatives appropriations committees and
the director of the joint legislative budget committee and the reason why this placement,
rather than a placement into a privately run facility for the developmentally disabled,
was deemed as the most appropriate placement. The department should also report if no
new placements were made. This report shall be made available by July 15, 2008.
In fiscal year 2007- 2008, there was one admission into a state- owned ICF- MR in Phoenix. This person
was admitted based on the need for 24- hour nursing that required an ICF- MR level of care and because
the guardian declined placement into the private ICF- MR. There were no new placements into the
Arizona Training Program at Coolidge.
If you have any questions, please contact Barbara Brent, Assistant Director for the Division of
Developmental Disabilities, at ( 602) 542- 6853.
Sincerely,
Tracy L. Wareing
Director
