Thunderbird is off to an excellent start for 1972-73. There are 685 students
enrolled which is the second largest enrollment in our history. This includes
345 new students from 300 colleges and universities and from 40 countries
around the world. The foreign student population totals 98.
A new five-year development plan has been adopted which is based on a
maximum enrollment of 750 students. The Board of Directors has decided
to avoid further investment in new buildings but rather to rebrbish what
we have. Probably all of you remember the primitive conditions which
existed ill! the dormitories and dining hall, and these facilities remain almost
the same.
In keeping with the five-year plan, refurnishing of all dormitories is taking
place and refrigeration of all units will be started soon. A new phone
system has provided every room with a private phone. Naturally, these
changes cost money, but a lot less than would be needed if new dormitories
were to be built.
The School will need about $2,500,000 over the five-year period for the
scheduled refurbishment, faculty salary increases, and the replacement of
aging utilities. Since contributions will be of benefit to the future of
Thunderbird, as well as being tax deductible, we hope all of you will help.

PATRICK REPLACES SNELL
AS BOARD CHAIRMAN
The annual meeting of the Thunderbird
Board of Directors was held on campus
on Monday, October 9, at which time
Dr. William Voris, president and chief
executive officer of the corporation, an­nounced
that Mr. James Patrick was
elected chairman of the board, replac­ing
Mr. Frank Snell, who retired from
that position. Mr. Snell will remain a
member of the board and of the exec­utive
committee. He has served as
chairman since 1966 and was a founder
of Thunderbird.
Mr. Patrick, retired Chairman of the
Board of the Valley National Bank and
currently President of the Continuing
Education Institute, Inc., has long been
a leader in the community's civic, cul­tural
and educational organizations. He
served as president of the board of
directors of Compas II, a combined
fund-raising effort for Phoenix cul­tural
organizations and is a member of
the Dean's Advisory Committee, College
of Business Administration, Arizona
State University. Long active in the
Boy Scouts of America,. Mr. Patrick
received the Silver Buffalo Award-the
highest honor the organization bestows
at the national level, in 1969. In addi­tion,
he is a member of the Board of
Trustees of Claremont Men's ~olleg,e in
California and a member of the Phoenix
Personnel Club.
Five new members were elected to the
board. They are: G. Clarke Bean, chair­man
of the board, The Arizona Bank;
Earl Bimson, president, Valley National
Bank; Karl Eller, president, Combined
Communications Corporation; George F.
Getz, Jr., president, Globe Corporation
and a director of Arizona Equities, Inc.;
and C. William Verity, Jr., chairman of
the board, Armco Steel Corporation,
Middletown, Ohio.
Mr. E. V. O'Malley was reelected chair­man
of th.e executive committee and
Dr. Voris was reelected president of the
corporation. Dr. Donald Baerreson was
elected academic vice president and
Berger Erickson reelected executive vice
president/ secretary-treasurer.
AMA LIFE MEMBERSHIP
AWARDED FRAN K SN ELL
Two Life Memberships in the American
Management Association, awarded to
individuals who have rendered out­standing
and noteworthy service to the
Association, were conferred upon Frank
L. Snell, former Chairman of the Thun­derbird
Board of Directors, and Sir
Max Bemrose, Chairman of Great Brit­ain's
Bemrose Corporation. Mr. Snell,
of the law firm of Snell and Wilmer in
Phoenix, was one of the founders of
Thunderbird. and has served as a mem­ber
of its Board of Directors and Exec­utive
Committee since 1946. As Chair­man
of the Executive Committee in
1963, he was instrumental in producing
the agreement of affiliation between
Thunderbird and AMA.
COFOUNDER OF THUNDERBIRD DIES
Wilbur Stouder Thompson, 82, one of the founders of Thunderbird, died in September
in Stouder Memorial Hospital, Troy, Ohio, after a few days' illness.
Following graduation from Dartmouth College, he served as a pilot in the Canadian
Air Force, and later the U. S. Air Force during World War 1. At the beginning of
World War II, he re-entered the Air Force as a colonel, serving as chief of special
services of the Air Force Training Command and receiving the Legion of Merit.
He was one of the founders of Thunderbird, and was a sales executive with the Troy
Sunshade Company. At one time, he was in the real estate development business in
Cleveland, and served as president of the real estate board. He was also active in
ci vic affairs.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Dorothy Corbett Thompson, of 305 East Franklin
Street, Troy, Ohio, two daughters, two sons, and eight grandchildren.
Weldon Gibson August Commencement Speaker
"International Business in the Seventies" was the title of the address delivered to the
August graduates by Dr. Weldon B. Gibson, Executive Vice President of Stanford
Research Institute and President of SRI-International.
Among the 191 candidates for the Master's degree were 24 foreign students repre­senting
16 countries. Music was furnished by the 12th Air Force Band from Luke Air
Force Base.
Receiving the Barton Kyle Yount Award for scholarship, character, desire and
potential ability to serve the American free enterprise system abroad, was DAVID
W. LOWSLEY II of Ft. Collins, Colorado. Recipients of the Alfred Knight Scholar­ship
Award were WILLIAM CHAPMAN of Middleport, New York; LAWRENCE D.
SCHULZ of LaGrange, Illinois, and STEVE A. SCHLEIS MAN of West Des Moines,
Iowa. The Alfred Knight Scholarship Award is given for excellence in scholastic
accomplishments.
One of the highlights of the commencement exercises was the honoring of Professor
Paul Wilson, for his twenty-five years of devoted service to Thunderbird. As Pro­fessor
of Accounting, Paul will be remembered by hundreds of Thunderbirds as the
man who taught them the difference between a debit and a credit, and who explained
the intricate workings of corporate finance. In the following photo, Paul's charming
wife, Pauline, joins him on the podium as he delivers a few words of appreciation.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TO BE FIRST TARGET
ON $100,000 TELEFUND DRIVE
In 1973, we hope to substantially increase alumni giving by conducting a Telefund
drive in all major U.S. cities, and in other areas of the world where there is a large
concentration of alumni. The Thunderbird Alumni Telefund will be a combined
effort between the Lambda Chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon and Thunderbird. Our goal
is $100,000.
With our alumni scattered as they are, located literally in all parts of the globe,
direct mail solicitations have been our main fund-raising effort. Many U.s. colleges
and universities have found the Telefund method to be far more effective, bringing
in a return from 45 to 60% as compared with a 3 to 5% response from direct mail
campaigns.
True, we have less than 8,000 alumni to draw from, which is only a "drop in the
bucket" when compared with the alumni body of many colleges and universities;
however, raising $100,000 from 8,000 Thunderbirds should be an easy job if everyone
will cooperate.
At the October 14 meeting of the Southern California Alumni Chapter, we announced
our plans for the Telefund drive in that area, and received enthusiastic response from
the alumni and a promise to do more than their share to start the drive on its way.
As Chairman of the Southern California Telefund Drive, JIM BONNER '59 will have
the wholehearted support of the Chapter Board of Directors, the area alumni and
Thunderbird. By the last of November each Alumnus in the area will receive a letter
from Jim, explaining the Telefund plan. This letter will be followed by a telephone
call or personal visit from Jim, or from one of his co-chairmen. Contributions may
be made on a cash basis, or on a monthly, semi-monthly, semi-annual or annual
schedule.
Between the time you receive the initial letter announcing the Telefund Drive and
the time you receive the personal call from the area chairman, we urge you to
examine your budget and make your plans for a substantial cash contribution, or a
pledge on the installment plan. REMEMBER, YOUR GIFT IS TAX-DEDUCTIBLE.
One-half of the proceeds from the Southern California drive will be credited to the
Southern California Chapter Thunderbird Scholarship Fund, and the balance will go
toward the completion of the Dining Hall Project.
To ease the workload of the area chairmen, we have consented to do most of the
paper work involved. All contributions will be acknowledged by the Alumni Office,
and those on scheduled payments will be billed from this office.
As Dr. Voris mentioned in the "President's Message" our Board of Directors plan to
raise $2,500,000 over a five-year period to meet the increasing demands of Thunder­bird.
Let us show our appreciation to the Board who have devoted many years to the
development of the School by giving as generously as we can.

DOUBLE HONORS FOR
TED JOHNSON '54
W. TED JOHNSON , a vice president in
the international division of United Cal­ifornia
Bank's Los Angeles headquar­ters,
has received the Bronze Plaque
Award of the Los Angeles Area Cham­ber
of Commerce for his outstanding
contribution to the cause of world trade
in the Los Angeles area during the year
l9071.
The award was presented by W. Morton
Jacobs, president of the Los Angeles
Area Chamber of Commerce, at the
annual World Trade Week luncheon of
the Foreign Trade Association of South­ern
California at the Los Angeles Con­vention
Center.
Ted joined UCB in 1954 and was pro­moted
to assistant manager of the inter­national
division in 1956, and to assist­ant
vice president six. years later. He
was elected a vice president of the bank
in 196'5.
Active in international trade for the
past 17 years, Ted was general chairman
of World Trade Week in 1968. He is an
active member of the World Trade
Executive Committee of the L.A. Area
Chamber of Commerce, and last year
was chairman of the West Coast Inter­national
Licensing show. He is currently
chairman of the chamber's licensing
subcommittee.
He is also a past chairman of the board
and past president of the F oreign Trade
Association of Southern California, a
past president of the Delta Phi Epsilon,
South California Alumni Association,
and in 1965: received the fraternity's
highest award.
In 1966, he was named an advisor to
the Southern California World Trade
Center Authority and currently is an
advisory board member in Southern
California for the Institute of Interna­tional
Education and a member of the
institute International Board in New
York.
Ted is a past president of Thunderbird's
Southern California Alumni Association
and a long time member of its Board of
Directors. On October 14th, he received
from that Chapter the Southern Cali­fornia
Distinguished Alumnus of the
Year Award.
PROFESSOR and STUDENT EXCHANGE BETWEEN
SUNG KYUN K WAN UNIVERSITY AND THUNDERBIRD
In the Spring and Summer issues of THE THUNDERBIRD, we mentioned that nego­tiations
were underway for a sister relationship between Thunderbird and Sung Kyun
Kwan University in Seoul, Korea. At the invitation of the Korean University, Presi­dent
Voris made a trip to Seoul last Spring to further discuss the relatienship and to
exchange ideas.
The sistership has been established, and an exchange of students and professors
began in September, when three second-semester students from Thunderbird entered
SKKU, and at the same time, one Korean student came te us from that Scheol.

SOURS
Dean Do-young Chung of SKKU Graduate School of
Foreign Trade is a visiting Professor at Thunderbird for
the Fall Semester, teaching Economic Relations of the
Far East. In March, Dr. Martin H. Sours, Thunderbird
Professor of International Studies, will begin his one­semester
professer at SKKU.
Dean Chung received his B.A. degree in Political Science
from Seoul National University and his M.A. degree in
Economics from Waseda University in Japan. He also
attended Kyoto University in Japan. In addition to
serving as Dean ef the Graduate Schoel ef Foreign
Trade at SKKU, he is also professer of Econemics there.
Prier to his present appointment as Dean, he served as
Dean of the College 'ef Ecenomics and Commerce, and
has been a visiting Prefessor at Daegu University and
a lecturer at Seeul National University.
He is the author of twe books, Principles of Economics
and The International Economy, and l1as-contnbuted
articles and monographs te various scholarly and pro­fessional
journals.
Dr. Sours joined the International Studies Department
at Thunderbird in September 19'H. A native ef Los
Angeles, he received a B.A. degree in Political Science
frem the University of California, and a Master's and
Ph.D. from the University of Washington. He served
with the Fifth Amphibious Squadron, Pacific Fleet, U.S.
Navy, from 1962 to 196,4, and fer two years was a Pro­vincial
Officer for USAID in Vietnam. Following that
he was a member of the faculty of the Division of
Independent Studies at the University of Washingten.
To be accepted for the exchange program the student must be single, must have
completed his first semester at Thunderbird, and must demonstrate interest and
ability in the study of the Pacific region.
Selected exchange students will have all tuition and fees waived by Sung Kyun Kwan
University for their semester in residence, and room and board will be provided by
the Kerean University, usually with a Korean family. Each individual is responsible
for all transportation costs and arrangements to and from Kerea, as well as other
incidentals to travel. In addition, any Thunderbird students may enroll at Sung Kyun
Kwan in accordance with the University's costs and procedures, and may transfer up
to 12 credit hours to Thunderbird toward the M.I.M. degree.
Exchange students coming from the Korean University will take the regular Thun­derbird
curriculum, including language, area studies and internatienal management
subjects. Their language will be "English as a Second Language." Our students going
there will continue with the foreign language they are taking here, which will
probably be Japanese. They will alse be able to take international marketing, inter­national
finance, development of economics, etc., which are being taught in English
at Sung Kyun Kwan University for this program.
The three Thunderbird students attending the Fall Semester at SKKU are Jehn
Sandor, Robert Guffin and John R. Johnson. The exchange student from Korea is
General Han Soe Kim.
THUNDERBIRD WELCOMES
SIX NEW FACULTY MEMBERS
Dr. John E. Drake, 49, of Seattle, Wash­ington,
has been named Chairman of
the Department of World Business. Prior
to his affiliation with Thunderbird, he
was associated with the Ogden Corpora­tion
from 1957 to 1963, specializing in
cost control systems and contract man­agement.
Dr. Drake served as a man­agement
consultant to the Boeing Com­pany,
Litton Industries and Engineering
Corporation of America, with emphasis
on contract negetiations. In addition, he
has taught at the graduate level at the
University of Washington and is pres­ently
serving as a special advisor on
loan activities te the World Bank.
A native of the United Kingdom and
now a U.S. citizen, he received his B.S.
and M.A. degrees from Oxford Univer­sity
in England, and his Ph.D. degree in
business administration from the Uni­versity
of Washington.
Assistant Professors Alice P . Johnson
and Andre Klein have joined the Lan­guage
Department.
Mrs. Johnson will serve as an assistant
professor of English responsible for
teaching English as a second language.
She has taught bi-lingual history and
geography in the California public
school system and was associated with
St. Mathews School in Pacific Palisades
before joining Thunderbird. She has al­so
been a teacher at the University of
California Criminal Justice Program.
She received her B:A. and M.A. degrees
and her TESL (Teacher of English as a
Secend Language) Certificate from the
University of California at Los Angeles.
Mr. Klein, 3'0, a native of Brussels, Bel­gium,
was employed by the New York
City public school system before joining
the French section of the Language De­partment.
He has been a lecturer at
Queensborough CO'mmunity College,
City College ef New York and Queens
College. He received his B.S. degree
from Long Island University and his
M.A. degree in French from New York
University.
Joining the Department of World Busi­ness
are Dr. Marshall Geer, Associate
Professor. and Mahmand S. El-Shab­rawy
and Dale A. Vorderlandwehr, As­sistant
Professors.
Dr. Geer, 33" is a native of New York
and was an assistant professor of E.co­nomics
at the University of Colorado
before joining our faculty. He also
taught at ColeradO' State College and at
the Univer.sity of Oregon. From 1968 to
1970, he was a Fulbright Lecturer in
E.conomics at the Autonomous Univer­sity
of Guadalajara in Mexico.
He received his B.S. degree in Business
Administration and Finance and his
M.B.A. degree from the University of
Denver. He also holds an M.A. and a
Ph.D. degree in Economics from the
University of Oregon.
Dr. Shabrawy, a native of UAR, was
associated with the University of Illinois
in Urbana before coming to Thunder­bird.
He has also taught at the Univer­sity
of California at Berkeley. In addi­tion,
he was employed as a management
consultant with the National Institute
of Management Development for five
years. He received his undergraduate
degree from Cairo University and his
Ph.D. degree from the University of Il­linois
at Urbana.
Mr. Vorderlandwehr, 34, has taught at
Wayne State University, the Detroit In­stitute
of Technologv and most recently
at Michigan State University where he
was a member of the department of
Economics. He received his B.A. degree
from Michigan State University and his
M.A. from Wayne State University. He
is completing his doctorate in Economics
at Wayne State University.

RUTH RICHARDSON DIES

in 1952, as
Secretary to Presi­dent
Edward B. Jul­iber,
passed away
on Sunday, Septem­ber
17th, in a nurs­ing
home at Swan­sea,
Massachusetts.
She later became
Secretary to Presi­dent
Carl A. Sauer,
and in 19·56 was ap­pointed
Registrar, a position she held
until her resignation in 1959. She left
Thunderbird to become assistant to the
president of Connecticut College for
Women. In 196·3·, Ruth moved to West­port,
Massachusetts, to care for the three
children of her deceased sister and
brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Flint
Brayton.
She is survived by two nieces, Susan
and Carol Brayton, of New Rochelle,
New York, and, a nephew, Navy Lt.
Paul Brayton of Allston, Mass.
Memorial services were held in the
United Congregational Church, Little
Compton, Rhode Island.

National President
of the Delta Phi
Epsilon Fraternity
at the 2.7th Biennial
Convention held in
San Francisco in
June. He succeeds
TOM BIRCH '51,
who held the office
for two terms.
A January 1961
graduate of Thunderbird, Pat is an aca­demic
administrator in the Office of the
Chancellor, The California State Uni­versities
and Colleges, and is the young­est
President in the 52-year history of
the fraternity.
Active in Southern California interna­tional
circles, he is also the 1971-72
President of the Southern California
Thunderbird Alumni Association, and
serves as a counselor for the School. He
is Chairman of Industry and Trade for
the Los Angeles-Bordeaux Sister Cities
Affiliation, a member of the American
Management Association, the National
Association for Foreign Students, and
the Alliance Francaise.
In his acceptance speech, he indicated
his approval of the removal of restric­tions
on the admission of women and
noted that, "for the first time a profes­sional
international association is giving
full recognition to the competence and
importance of women in international
business and overseas service and their
right to fully participate in international
circles."
The next convention of Delta Phi Epsi­lon
will be held in Phoenix in 1974. At
that time, delegates will consider a
change of name of the fraternity to re­flect
its professional nature.

was the theme of the October
14 Southern California Alumni meeting
held at the home of Lynne Lipsher's

the Los Angeles Alumni Chapter of
Delta Phi Epsilon, and guests enjoyed
an evening of socializing with new and

Johnson by Chapter President Pat
Hughes. Ted has been a long-time and
very active chapter member and a for­mer
chapter president. He is vice presi­dent
of the United California Bank,
International Division, in Los Angeles,
and is deeply involved in Chamber of
Commerce and World Trade activities.
We salute this Chapter for its dedication
to the cause of Thunderbird and for its
continuing existence for the past twenty
years. We commend Pat Hughes and his
Board of Directors for their splendid
work during the past year.
INTERNATIONAL S.A.M.
The Thunderbird Chapter of the Society
for Advanacement of Management has
received approval by S.A.M./A.M.A. for
the initiation of the International Com­munications
Center. The effort will be
coordinated with the Thunderbird
Alumni Office and the new head of the
S.A.M.I A.M.A. International Activities
Dr. William Kirby, Jr. of Rockville:
Maryland.
The primary objective is to develop
overseas chapters of the S.A.M. through
Thunderbird graduates, and will prove
to be a benefit to host country manage­ment-
minded businessmen, as well as
T'bird graduates.
During the next few weeks, members of
the Thunderbird S.A.M. Chapter will
begin contacting key alumni in various
locations around the world. In this
manner, they will initiate the Chapter
framework and solicit a response as to
the feasibility and acceptance of the
idea. It is felt this chance for profes­sional
management affiliation will be
welcomed by T'bird businessmen, as
wel~ as th.ose of the host country; es­peCIally,
smce the recent affiliation of
S.A.M. with the American Management
Association.

HEW GRANT
Mr. Andrew Chang,
Associate Professor
of Japanese, has
been awarded a
$14,000 grant from
the U. S ; Depart­ment
of Health, Ed­ucation
and Welfare
to write a general
reference text on
Japanese business
writing. The grant,
received through
the Division of
Foreign Studies,
Institute of International Studies, Office
of Education of HEW will be dispersed
in four equal payments over the period
of one year. The book will contain ex­amples
of typical Japanese business let­ters,
forms, etc., with English transla­tions,
and provide an explanation of
these forms and the basis for their use.
The text will be useful for the college
student as well as the businessman and
will be the first of its kind ever pub­lished.
Professor Chang was an instructor of
Japanese and Chinese at Washington
University before joining Thunderbird's
Modern Language faculty in 19<70. He
also taught at the University of Colo­rado.
Prior to his teaching experience,
he was employed by the Tourism Coun­cil
of the Republic of China and also
served as Master translator for the Chi­nese
Telecommunications Administra­tion.
He received his B.A. degree from Na­tional
Taiwan University in Taipei, and
his M.A. degree from Seton Hall Uni­versity,
and has done graduate work at
Washington University.

POSTHUMOUS A WARD FOR JOSEPH B. SMITH
Mrs. Marilyn Smith recently received a posthumous award in memory of her hus­band,
Joseph Brooks Smith, an AID assistant area development officer killed by a
Vietcong mine on August 30, 1970.
The award, presented to Marilyn by Secretary of State Rogers, is the highest honor
which can be awarded to a foreign service officer.
Prior to attending Thunderbird, Joe served with the U. S. Marine Corps in Vietnam
and attained the rank of Captain. Following graduating in May 1,9'6<9" he joined the
foreign service and was assigned to Vietnam by AID, as Chief of the Economic
Development Division of Civil Operations for Rural Development Support (CORDS)
in Quang Nam Province. The award was the result of his total dedication to his
duties and for outstanding courage and disregard for personal safety. He was killed
on an off-duty day while visiting a new refugee resettlement center in an area where
Vietcong were known to be operating.
On Memorial Day, 19'72, a building to house advisory personnel of the Quang Nam
Province Development Division was dedicated in his memory.
Fellow classmates, Thunderbird faculty and friends, established a Joseph Brooks
Smith Memorial Library Fund. The proceeds of the Fund are restricted to the pur­chase
of books on Asia for the Thunderbird Library.
DWARAKANATH HONORED
BY INDIA UNIVERSITY
YADALAM DWARAKANATH was recently honored by RITA (Radhakrishnan Insti­tute
of Technology and Administration) in Bangalore, India, as the first student
sponsored by the Society of Technical and Management Education for overseas
studies. Also honored at the July reception held at the Madras Woodlands Hotel, was
A. R. Badarinarayan, Education Minister.
Following graduation from Thunderbird in 10970, Dwarak attended Puget Sound
University at Tacoma, Washington, and received a Master's Degree in Business
Administration in 1-971. Shortly thereafter, he returned to Bangalore to enter the
family owned textile business. He also handles three classes in industrial manage­ment
for post-graduate students of RITA, and recently addressed the members of
the Rotary Club of Bangalore South on "International Management."
RITA was inaugurated in 1963 as a College of Business Administration and has since
developed into a professional institution to train managers at various levels, offering
training in industrial and production engineering and personnel management. In the
past nine years the Institution has trained more than 800 students.

THUNDERBIRDS AT SUMMER OLYMPICS
No doubt there were a number of Thunderbird spectators at the 1972 Summer
o.lympics in Munich and they were probably unaware that two of the participants
were T'birders - Gary Hoyt '56 and Julieta Flores '58.
Julieta, formerly of Nogales, Arizona, served as a hostess for the o.lympics and was
garbed in the o.lympic dirndle in the style of the regional dress of Bavaria. As
hostess for the cultural department, she toured in English and Spanish the guests
attending the olympic exhibition entitled "World Cultures and Modern Art" - the
influence of Asia, Africa and Indo-America on European art.
Gary Hoyt, famed as Puerto Rico's top sailor, finished third in the 1965 World Snipe
Championships and came up with 8th place in his class (Tempest) during the pre­o.
lympic regattas held in Kiel last year. 1972 brought a run of bad luck for Gary
and his best 19>72 o.lympic finish among islanders was 16th place of 21 entries in the
Tempest class, and 18th in the last of seven races. Better luck next year!
o.n the business side of life, Gary is Senior Vice President, Latin America & Far East
Division of Young & Rubicam and is based in Santurce, P.R.
Julieta plans to return to Munich to attend the translating school, Schmitz Dol­metscher
Institute, specializing in the international trade terminology in English,
German, Spanish and Portuguese, and plans to eventually enter this field since
Germany is at the moment an active trade partner with Latin America. For a time
she was assistant advertising manager for the Latin American and Far East opera­tions
of the Gillette Company. She was later employed by Iberia, the Spanish air line.

FOREIGN SERVICE OFFICER DIES
Noel Kreisher, husband of Gloria Was­ielewski
'47, and a former foreign serv­ice
staff officer died in August at George
Washington Hospital in Washington,
D.C.
Born in Kalamazoo. Michigan, he served
with the Army medical corps in New
Guinea and the Philippines during World
War II. He joined the foreign service in
Manila in 1948 and saw administrative
and general service duty later in Tokyo,
Djakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and
Seoul.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria, of
2117 "E" Street, N.W., Washington, D.C.;
a sister of Indianapolis, and a brothet
of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
1948 TIM WARNER, veteran inter­national
sales executive, is the
new Managing Director of Fire­stone
Tyre & Rubber Company of India
in Bombay. He has been sales director

Now that their children have left home,
the BILL DAVISES sold their 11-room
house and bought a smaller one near

Vocational Rehabilitation Program; their

of N. C. and planned to be married

we wonder if you identified the
sparkling eyes of the mystery celebrity
as belonging to JQE ROSA, Thunder­bird
class of June 1958.
The magazine, which came to us through
the courtesy of Ruth Fellers '57, gave a
very thorough description of Joe's per­sonality,
talents and accomplishments.
He has been with Pioneer Savings and
Loan in Honolulu for the past eight
years, and is currently Executive Vice
President and General Manager. Joe

Nalani, Keoni, Maile, Kekoa and
the most recent addition, Keoki, who
arrived a few months ago.

TOM ROBINSON '71 has been assigned
to the U. S. Embassy in Libreville, Gab­on,
to serve as administrative officer.
Prior to attending Thunderbird, Tom
served with the Peace Corps in Tansania
and in Vietnam with the U. S. Agency
for International Development. Libre­ville
will be his first assignment since
gaining his commission in the foreign
service, which required extensive writ­ten
and oral testing and completion of a
year's study at the Foreign Service
Academy in Washington, D. C.
Tom and his wife, Judy, and their
seven-month-old daughter left for Af­rica
in September, via Paris, where he
received further briefing on Gabon and
Africa and language instruction.

The Third Annual INTERNATIONAL AUCTION and WORLD TRADE FAIR
will be held on April 14, 19'73. The Women's Club wants to again thank those
Alums who sent items which were auctioned last year. We will be contacting
overseas Thunderbirds with a request for an "international item" in the near
future. We hope that you will be able to either mail your donation or send it
with returning friends or relatives. The success of our Auction depends on
your generosity and help.
Proceeds from last year's event totaled $1,400!! We were able to purchase
both a 1,6mm sound-film projector and a 3'5mm slide projector. Money was
also donated to the Nursery. The campus as a whole benefits from the pro­ceeds
of your donation, and very much appreciate it.
