June 21, 1952 was a very popular and important social event for residents of the Verde Valley. The Jordan~Jackson wedding was well-attended with more than 250 guests present at the sunset wedding on the front lawn of the Jordan home. It was “the” social event of the summer. While many invitations were sent out, there were also fliers posted at the local markets.
Anne Jordan bought her wedding dress from the exclusive Schick’s Bridal Shop in Long Beach, California for her sunset garden wedding. The original price was $100. Since it was not the heavy satin style that was popular at that time, the store made her a great offer and sold it to Anne for $25. Anne only made $.50 an hour working in the University of Redlands Library, so it was still a big expense to her.
The white embroidered organza dress was fashioned with a tight Basque waist and full skirt falling to a train. Anne also wore an “illusion” veil belonging to her prospective mother-in-law, which was held in place by a halo cap of pastel flowers.
The wedding planning over the previous year took place mainly through letter-writing as the Jordan’s did not have a telephone and Anne was in California attending the University of Redlands with her fiancé, Robert.
