This show was the only juried show of the 1953 season and gave local artists the opportunity to have their work appraised by judges. The judges presiding this year were J. Powell Scott, William Schimmel, L. B. Curtis, Gertrude Briggs, and Harrison Moore who selected more than 100 paintings to be exhibited in the show. Allie Patrick and Mark Voris were awarded top prizes; Patrick for her oil still life titled “Abstract,” and Voris for his watercolor entitled “Autumnal.” (“Festival Arts Winners Listed.” Tucson Citizen, 4/11/1953)SubjectTucson Art Center (Ariz)Tucson Museum of Art--ExhibitionsArt--Exhibitions--Catalogs--ExhibitionsGalleries & MuseumsArt, Modern--20th Century--ExhibitionsDate Original1953-04-12Date Range1950s (1950-1959)TypeTextOriginal FormatCatalogsLanguageEnglishContributing InstitutionTucson Museum of Art and Historic Block Research LibraryCollectionTucson Museum of Art, A History - Posters, Print and PhotographsRights StatementYou may copy, distribute and display this work, and derivitave works based upon it, however you must give credit for the image to TUCSON MUSEUM OF ART, A HISTORY; POSTERS, PRINT, AND PHOTOGRAPHS FROM THE LIBRARY ARCHIVES.
