The top of the compote is slightly depressed and features an engraving entitled "Pima Chief" featuring an aged man with braids. On one side of the engraving is the state seal while the other side displays the NAVY emblem. Each symbol is displayed under an eagle and flanked by double swagged flags and cacti. Above and below the engraving are bars containing the word "Arizona" under two dolphins facing a seashell; a triton protrudes from either side of the bar.
