As the years passed, the old hemp rope that was used for the ringing broke, and it became a challenge for the teenage youths to shinny up the walls to ring the bell. One day, as the bellringer made his swing, the bell quit ringing, but dully clanked. His father shouted, "Hellfry! What's going on in the belfry?" "Of course, it wasn't some kind of a prank, the boy answered, "The dinger just wouldn't ding!" And no matter how hard he would crank, all he could get was a clank. The bell had lost its ring. The old cracked bell now rests on the east side of the chapel on Cooley Street.Date Original2005-02-15Date Range1930s (1930-1939)TypePhysical ObjectOriginal FormatBellsContributing InstitutionShow Low Historical Society MuseumCollectionShow Low Historical Society Collection HighlightsSubcollectionShow Low Historical Society Photo ArchivesRights StatementU.S. and international copyright laws protect this digital image.
