Wetherill served as guide and packer to the Expedition in several years, as well as being a consultant and assistant in archaeology and botany. The painting in watercolor is of Wetherill by J.G. (Joseph Graham) Kaye. The painting says "A friend to all the gang. J.E. Kaye. Engineers, Rainbow Bridge-Monument Valley Expedition 1933" and is also signed by all of the 1933 Expedition engineers and staff: Ansel Franklin Hall, R.H. Thomas, C.L. Walton, W.M. Enger, E.C.
