No year is included in the cancel but it probably is from the 1880s, and the date is not legible. Known both as Arizona and Colorado City under the New Mexico Territory and also as Arizona City for four years until 1873, under Arizona Territory, Yuma should not be confused with Fort Yuma on the California side of the Colorado River. The territorial prison, which was built in 1875, is now a historical point of interest.
