Yavapai College Library
Yavapai College first opened its doors to students in the Fall of 1969. The College Library has expanded over time with the institution. In 2005 Yavapai College completed construction of two new libraries to serve its students, faculty, and staff as well as the general public. One library is on the Verde Valley Campus in Clarkdale and the Boyd Tenney Library is on the Prescott Campus. In January 2008 the town of Prescott Valley broke ground for a new public library and Yavapai College Library will have a 900 sq. ft. presence on the second floor of this building for the students at the college's Prescott Valley Campus to utilize. The libraries are part of the Yavapai Library Network (YLN), a consortium of over 44 school, public, special and academic libraries within Yavapai County. The combined collections of the YLN include over one million items. Through the library's catalog, students can have books and other materials delivered from one YLN library to another.
The College Archives is located within the Boyd Tenney Library. It houses basic documents on the history of the College, such as minutes from Governing Board meetings, College catalogs, local newspaper clippings, the school newspaper, memorabilia and a variety of other resources related to the College. The Archives is open to the public the same hours as the Library. The Archives' website can be found on the Library's homepage.
Also found on the Library's homepage are online forms for patrons to request items via interlibrary loan, request titles for the library to purchase, and request research assistance via Ask a Librarian. Recently, the library tapped into the hidden talents of its staff members and launched LibraryTube, a collection of lighthearted short films highlighting specific services and collections.
The library supports information literacy through its Instructional Services Department. Faculty can request to have their classes visit the library to learn research skills during regular hours, including weekends. Library staff will also go to the classroom whether it be on campus or at one of the college's centers.
The mission of the Yavapai College Library is to support and enhance the academic, professional and lifelong learning needs of the Yavapai College community. This is accomplished by:
Providing information resources, technology and support necessary in teaching and learning.
Providing environments, services and programs that promote discovery, engagement and value of lifelong learning.
