The gourd is carved and painted to resemble feathers to create the background for the images. Image 1 features the Arizona state flag at the top with a young firefighter holding an ax and carrying the American flag draped over his left shoulder. Image 2 features the detailed feather carvings and the talon support. Image 3 features four American eagles on the side. A plaque is perched on the driftwood which reads "Honoring all who serve June 2013 May their spirits soar on the wings of Eagles forever (lists the names and respective ages of the fallen Hotshots) Marguerte Smith #1304." Image 5 is a handwritten note from the artist and The Gourds Prayer by Kathy Wuertz.
