The tabloids of 1899 had a field day with the image of the petite "Girl Bandit" as a posse hunted them down and brought them to justice. She was transferred to Tucson where she wrote poetry and gave frequent interviews before escaping with a male prisoner. They were captured in New Mexico, and Hart was sentenced to five years at the Territorial Prison in Yuma. Upon her release she moved back to the Midwest where she reportedly worked in a cigar store.Date Original1899Date Range1890s (1890-1899)TypeStill ImageOriginal FormatBlack-and-white photographsLanguageEnglishContributing InstitutionArizona Historical SocietyCollectionArizona's Saints and Shady LadiesSubcollectionBiography SeriesRights StatementContact the Arizona Historical Society Library and Archives, Tempe. http://www.arizonahistoricalsociety.org/tempe-archives/
