The Mimbres culture is a subset of the larger Mogollon culture and was centered in the Mimbres Valley. Their territory encompassed the upper Gila River and parts of the upper San Francisco River in southwestern New Mexico and southeastern Arizona. This example was found on the eastern slopes of the Chiricahua Mountains in southeastern Arizona and is believed to be the westernmost known Mimbres rock art site.
