Buckeye
An article titled, “Name of Valley Village is Changed” published in 1910 discussed changing the town of Sidney, Arizona to Buckeye because the nearby Buckeye canal led people to call the area Buckeye. Property owners in the area petitioned to have the name of the town “changed forever to Buckeye.” The name of the canal was given by its builder M.M. Jackson after the nickname of his home state of Ohio. Previously known as Sidney the town was established in 1888 but was not incorporated until 1931.
The town of Buckeye became a city in 2014.
