Originally Thunderbird Field II, a World War II Army Air Corps pilot training base created in 1942, Scottsdale Airport was established when the city of Scottsdale purchased the airfield from the Arizona Conference of Seventh Day Adventists in 1966. The airport sees over 150,000 take offs and landings each year on its single runway and is a popular landing spot for tourists, businesses, and private jets.
