In an article from 1936, a city named for ancient ruins was covered. The city of Casa Grande, founded in 1914 was named for the prehistoric ruins located about 20 miles away. With the establishment of a railroad station in 1880 the company borrowed the name for the famous and well-preserved ruins. Translated in Spanish, Casa Grande means, “big house."
