The Howler was published in 1900s Prescott, Arizona, and included news of the surrounding area, including Jerome. While politics is the focus of some of the articles, much of the rest is comical in nature- in fact, below the masthead reads "Perpetrated Primarily for the Pecuniary Perpetuity of the Perspicacious Publishers and Incidentally to Make Merriment for Our Patrons". Also at the top of the newspaper, it states "We are the joshers" and "All the world's a josh".
Of note is the 1900-07-16 issue, written 2 days after a fire tore through the town of Prescott on July 14, 1900. The issue gives an account of the fire and the aftermath and claims to be the "first paper to be printed in the new town."
This collection includes only two issues the State of Arizona Research Library has in its physical collections.
