The Arizona Free Press

The Arizona Free Press newspaper, one of Arizona's oldest newspapers, was published in Arizona City, Arizona Territory, from 1871 to 1872. Known today as Yuma, Arizona City was one of only two places where travelers could cross the Colorado River on their way to and from California. This made it a prime location for information to travel to, hence the propensity for The Arizona Free Press to carry news from around Arizona and the U.S., despite being in a remote section of the Territory. The news was primarily governmental in nature but also included incidents with Mexicans and tribal members. Legal notices were printed alongside business advertisements and travel and shipping information.

This collection includes the only issues the State of Arizona Research Library has in its physical collections. Due to the age and condition of this title, scans on the Arizona Memory Project are the best quality possible.
