The 'Leven O'Clock Roast

The Roast was a satirical newspaper published in 1912, seemingly to "roast" and make light of the world as the editors viewed it. Articles covered politics and community news but were heavy on sarcasm, racism, and sexism. Even some of the advertisements seemed in on the satire. It is unknown if additional issues of the newspaper were published, as volume and issue numbers and even the date were part of the satire of this title.

This collection includes the only issue the State of Arizona Research Library has in its physical collections.

The 'Leven O'Clock Roast contains content that may represent hurtful beliefs and imagery that reflect the worldviews of its creators. Although such content does not reflect the values of the Arizona State Library, Archives, and Public Records, a Division of the Office of the Arizona Secretary of State, it has not been censored or sanitized to be anything less than what it is. Providing access to an accurate historical record allows researchers to analyze such records in the context of their original expression.
