These envelopes, or "covers," as collectors call them, originated with various businesses, organizations, and local governments in Arizona. Cover collectors refer to these types of covers as "corner covers" or "advertising covers" due to the images and text that are often found in the return address portion of the cover. From a historical perspective, these covers tell stories about Arizona pioneers, entrepreneurs, politicians, and more. Wherever possible, brief historical context has been provided to help the viewer place the cover in time, and perhaps act as a springboard for further research. The covers in this online exhibit are only a fraction of what is within the collection, which is available for viewing at the Postal History Foundation's Slusser Library.
