The Cuidado was the official newspaper of the 158th Infantry, Arizona National Guard, part of the 45th Division of National Guards in Oklahoma, Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado. Its publishing began a few months before the Infantry's training at Ft. Tuthill in August 1934. One article from the first issue stated that The Cuidado was a revival of a previous iteration, though it did not provide much detail on the former version. The new version was stated to include "regimental news, items of interest to and articles by, members of the General Staff, 45th Division," in addition to other members of National Guard leadership. Its intention was to cover news of each unit, individual, or battalion, including any progress, status updates, or delinquencies. It also promised not to print anything in contradiction to the commanders.
The newspaper contained hand-drawn cartoons, photographs, reports, history pieces, and letters from Major General Alexander Tuthill, Governor Benjamin Moeur, and other political and military leaders. A later newspaper, the Arizona Military Post, also covered the news of the 158th Regimental Combat Team of the Arizona National Guard while away at training in Fort Huachuca.
This collection includes the four issues the State of Arizona Research Library has in its physical collections.
