The Tonto Tribune was a newspaper that began in Payson in 1958. The paper’s masthead noted that the paper was “the new voice of the Tonto Basin and Mogollon Rim Country” but within two months this was changed to include “people who read the ads read The Tonto Tribune.” The paper included a variety of local news segments, including notices about weddings, community celebrations, school news, a column specifically for Pine news, local and state government activities, and even a special column geared towards teenagers called ‘Teen Times.’ It would later begin to include an extensive weekly TV guide section.
