Published in the United States’ first planned community exclusively for retirees, The Youngtown News debuted two years after Youngtown was officially established in Phoenix’s West Valley. Beginning initially as a sort of bulletin-style newsletter, the paper eventually evolved and in 1958 it began to be printed with photos. The paper focused mainly on community news and events, as well as activities and opportunities organized by local clubs and organizations.
