This collection of photos depicts the work and lives of the men of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) at Colossal Cave in Vail, AZ, 1934-1937. The CCC was a federal government program designed to conserve our country's natural resources and to provide jobs and training to young, unmarried men. The men of the CCC made improvements inside Colossal Cave, constructed buildings, and built picnic areas under the supervision of State Park Service personnel. They lived in a camp supervised by U.S. Army personnel, where they engaged in educational, sports, and recreational activities.
