It shows the state's most important artifact of the Spanish colonial era. The original Jesuit mission, founded by Eusebio Francisco Kino in 1699, was built mainly with Native American labor. The mission was destroyed by raiding Apaches in the 1700s; a new church was completed in 1797. The 1797 mission is shown in this painting. The San Xavier mission still serves the Native community today.Date Original1913Date Range1910s (1910-1919)TypeStill ImageOriginal FormatPaintings (visual works)Contributing InstitutionArizona Capitol MuseumCollectionLon Megargee PaintingsRights StatementIN COPYRIGHT
