He called it Taliesin West; Wright was of Welsh descent, and Taliesin means "shining brow" in Welsh -- an apt description for the site upon which he and his apprentices built the school. Every year, Wright, his wife Iovanna and his apprentices made the trek to Scottsdale from Spring Green, Wisconsin, where his summer home and original architectural school were located. He was a frequent consumer of Scottsdale services, ordering supplies and having things built at local businesses such as Cavalliere's blacksmith shop.
