Condition Report:
Historical Note: Prior to the construction of St. Joseph's Hospital at the Thomas Road site; it was located on the SE corner of Polk & 4th Streets. The Arizona Center now occupies this location. The hospital at Polk Street is described as follows by a former St. Joseph's nurse who worked in the "old" hospital and was still with St. Joseph's when the new hospital opened on Thomas Road. The source of this information is uncertain; so we have chosen not to include her name. Following is her description of the nurses' quarters at the old hospital on Polk Street: "Each hospital room opened onto the balcony. The student nurses lived on the top floor which was a large open dormitory. When St. Joseph's moved to the present location on Thomas Road and 3rd Avenue in 1953, the students occupied the whole hospital as a residence and were bussed to the new St. Joseph's for duty. They lived at the old hospital until the Cullen Building was built at the new location."
