Historical Note: The First Baptist Church was built in 1903 at Third Avenue and Monroe and was used for almost thirty years. In 1929(sic--*1930 per National Register of Historic Places NRHP) it was replaced by a new building on the same site. That building stands today, although it was damaged by fire several years ago. At this writing, the congregation has been meeting in a new church at Central and Glendale Avenues since 1967.(Info. from research by Melissa Keane and Gary Weiand on a page titled Phoenix's Pioneer Churches, n.d.) (*This building was added to the NRHP in 1982; Bldg. #82002081. Built in 1930, the church was designed by architects Fitzhugh & Byron. It was constructed of concrete, brick, stucco, ceramic tile, and stone. Architectural style is listed as Moderne, Other. Period of Significance: 1925-1949.)
