Historical Note: Original hotel was built in 1920. A February 1920 blurb in the LOS ANGELES TIMES reported "New Hotel Apache is to cost $1,200,000. This 4-story hotel was in business under this name until at least the1960s. A postcard (found on the Internet) reads that the hotel had a Cocktail Lounge; Barber Shop; Sun Deck; 24-hour Switchboard; Parking, and was a 5-minute walk to downtown business and shopping. The hotel was listed in the HOTEL & MOTEL RED BOOK 1968, published by the American Hotel Association Directory Corporation. The listing showed the owner as J.M. Holcombe III; 100 rooms; telephone number 602-254-1127; rates per night for a Single: $3.25-7.25, Double: $4.25-12.25.
